To get an acceptable image in uninspiring lighting you have to be resourceful in your technique. Exclude the featureless white sky and the drab landscape and leave just the sun's glitter path on the waters of Ennerdale. Leave in a fence and a boulder for interest, add a warming filter in post processing, and you can end up with an image that's half decent.
