It looks like autumn but it's December. Shortly after sunrise in December, which in mountain country is actually not as early as you might think as the sun has to climb above the elevation of the surrounding hills.
The bracken turns red in autumn and remains like this throughout winter. On this occasion the colours were intensified by a blood red sun.
To ensure the river banks led into the corners of the frame I had to stand in the water. It vastly improves the composition but does mean getting wet feet !
